Joshua Tree

A brand-new personal series on one of my favorite places to camp, shoot and ponder. If you have never walked an empty highway at midnight in the middle of the desert, this is the place to do it. The scenery is positively prehistoric. (Note: there’s a lot less retouching in these than you think.)

I love the Mood in these photos with a capitol M. The colors, the softness, the muted tones and serene feel sits in your stomach, and it’s so good…really good.

Thanks, Renee. I appreciate that. I had a great experience out there, shooting this series. I swear, winter is the best time to shoot in the desert. Not only is it less hot, but there are often interesting clouds and better, softer light.

True. J-Tree is a stunning place, and I look forward to returning. There’s an amazing quality to pre-dawn silence in the desert…
